The Fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition.

Multicultural Britain 

• 4.6 million people in the UK are from ethnic minority backgrounds
• 7.9% of total population 
• Over half of these are from Asian backgrounds
• One quarter of this is from a black origin 
• of the total number of ethnic minority people 5.3% are Chinese and 5% from other ethnic backgrounds.

EastEnders

The three main Ethnicity groups that are being represented in EastEnders are the White, Asian and Black groups. 

Asian- Masood Family

The Masood Family supports the stereotypical interpretations of Indian Asians. Masood is a low payed post man. Tamwar also supports this by being smart enough to get into a high University but declined to run a Curry house. Zahnab was mainly a house wife with a part time job at the mini mart. 

 How ever their eldest Son went against the stereotypical Indian Asian beliefs. In the Qu'ran it states that if you follow the religion it is against the religion to have  relationships with the same sex. Even with this Syed turned gay therefore going against the typical Indian Asian. 

 

White For the stereotype- Dot Branning 

Dot Branning supports the stereotype of the typical British Tea drinker, Church going, Stuck up Britain. In most episodes that she is shown in she is always drinking tea and/or talking about her religious beliefs. 

White Against the Stereotype- The Butchers

The Butcher Family goes against the stereotype for the White British, This is because Bianca Goes into prison because she assaulted another character in the show. Their Dialect inst the typical Posh accent that foreigners believe British people have. 

Black- Dexter 

Dexter supports the stereotype for Black people, in his previous life he was known to steal and cause trouble by being in a gang. This supports the stereotypical gangster. 

Skins Representation

Tony Stonem

Skins character Tony Stonem is played by Nicholas Hoult. 

• High angled shot over Tony when he is in bed suggests that he isn't powerful because the audience are looking over him.
• When the camera zooms out it reveals a naked man and woman on his bed sheets. Tony is positioned in the middle of the two. This could connote his sexuality of having relationships with both men and women.
• The bed sheets are also neat even though he has been sleeping in them. Tony is neat and tidy.
• His room colours are white and neutral. This connotes innocence and naturalism. The white also means that he is neat and clean because he wouldn't have white otherwise
• The director uses cut shots of tony working out. This means he does them every day as a routine. While working out he looks at himself in the mirror. The mirror symbolizes vanity.
• An alarm goes off on his watch in which he goes to watch his neighbor getting ready for a shower. He shows confidence because he doesn't shy away when she realizes Tony is watching. 
• While he is looking out of he window his sister Effy comes back from a night out. He turns the music up loud on his docking station to distract his Dad while Effy comes in. This links back to him being less powerful because he is doing what his sister is telling him. 
• When Tony is in the bathroom he is reading an academic book. This suggests he is smart because it was a hard literature book for high level readers.
• Whilst he is also in the bathroom he locks the door and climbs out the window. His Dad is waiting to come in the bathroom. His Dad says "not again" this means Tony does it on a regular basis and he likes annoying his dad. 

Effy Stonem

Skins Character Effy Stonem is played by Kaya Scodelario.

• When we first see Effy her arms are crossed. This type of body langue means that she is deffensive about herself and putting a "wall" up between her and other people. 
• The camera pans across to reveal Effy behind a bush. This symbolizes evilness
• As Effy goes into her room you see the colours of her room which is pinks and purples. These are girly colours. 
• There is a teddy hanging on the back of her door. This shows how she is still child like. 
• Her duvet is untidy and her room is dark with the curtains still closed. 
• She wipes off the make up she wore before to become the perfect school girl. Has to live up to expectations? Seen as a good child?

When she was first introduced into Eastenders she was in care. he had commited crimes whilst she was in there. she then faced the problem of trying to get along with Billy after he took her out of care. Later on she became pregnant at a young age. This meant it was hard for her to find friends in the square. When Lexi her baby was born Social workers took her away because they thought Lola wasnt capeable enough to look after her. She then had to fight to get her baby back.

I think Lola will commit another crime and have Lexi took back off of her, this will cause her o go into care and Lola into Prision. She will then return to the show and try to fight for Lexi back.

Audience reaction

The writers of Eastenders have crated Lola to make the audience feel sorry for the hard life she has had. They will also love Lolas character. Also Teenagers can relate to her because of young pregnancy and going into care.

Abbey: You think? hes just been acting so strange with me

Lola: Look Abbey, why dont you go home and relax take youre mind off things, i will go talk to him later if you want?

Abbey, REALLY?!? that would be great thank you
