Critical reception:

Rotten Tomatoes 78%.

"Whether by design or otherwise, Dredd
seems better-suited to a 2D home video presentation
than to the 3D silver screen."

Reasons for lack of success:

Alot of comic book adaptation movies were hitting cinemas at the same time of Dredd, This made it harder for Dredd to get more publicity.

It didnt stand by the original comic book settings, Fans of Dredd were disappointed  The producer had adapted the city that it took place in.

The rating for the film was set at 18, More younger teenagers like to go to the cinema. This meant that Dredd wasn't getting viewings because of the target market.  Critics said that there should have been an edited version that was rated at PG-13 to attract more viewers to the cinema to watch it.

Filming Dredd in 3D meant that people didn't have the option to veiw the film in 2D, People refused to pay extra to watch Dredd in 3D. This would have contributed to the lack of money made at the box office.

Where was the marketing? There was hardly any marketing for Dredd. Critics said that the trailer was unengaging and didn't pull in the audience to watch the film.

Personal opinion:

When i first watched the movie (online) i really enjoyed it. I thought the whole idea of the movie was great. However the special effects of the movie didn't portray the good idea. That would be the only aspect of the movie i would improve :)

Judge Dredd: America is an irradiated wasteland. Within it lies a city. Outside the boundary walls, a desert. A cursed earth. Inside the walls, a cursed city, stretching from Boston to Washington D.C. An unbroken concrete landscape. 800 million people living in the ruin of the old world and the mega structures of the new one. Mega blocks. Mega highways. Mega City One. Convulsing. Choking. Breaking under its own weight. Citizens in fear of the street. The gun. The gang. Only one thing fighting for order in the chaos: the men and women of the Hall of Justice. Juries. Executioners. Judges.
