Open sequences

1. By Any Means

Music and sound

The sequence uses upbeat music which is made out of drums and guitars. This creates a mysterious and tensity for the audience. There are no lyrics to the opening sequence. The idea for the music is to engage the audience to carry on watching. So the more intense the music the more the audience becomes engaged and persuaded to watch the series.

Images

You see the Gerken in the sequence this suggests that the series is being set in London. Also an urban setting is being used for the show. As the sequence goes on there is use of Guns and Bullets. This can suggest that the show is going to be about violence and fighting. The silhouettes also create mystery about the show. because the audience wont know who the actors and actresses are until the carry on and watch the episode. This is a good way to engage the audience by creating mystery and dramatic intensity. Bars going across the screen are also used. this symbolizes no freedom and people being trapped. Another image used is amaze with a mouse. This is usually seen during experiments. This could suggest that the programme is about trying out things and doing experiments. But this also could mean that there will be confusion in the episodes. There has also been a use of a naked woman in the sequence posing in sensual positions. This could show that the series has some sexual elements to it.

Mise-en-Scene

Dark colours are used in the sequence. this connotes mystery.
Reds are also used which connote passion, Love and death.
Blues in the sequence could connote sadness and depression.

There are streets and buildings, this sets the scene to be in an urban setting.

Target Audience

The target audience for By any means would be people who enjoy crime dramas and mystery. Also people who love danger and death.

2. Game Of Thrones

Music and sound

Game of thrones uses a violin and drums to create the opening scene, and maybe a guitar at the end. As the opening scene goes further the music increases in speed which makes the sequence intense. At the end the violin and drums fade out leaving a guitar being plucked. Added sounds to the opening sequence are swords being fought which suggests that the programme is about fighting and danger. You can also hear building crashing, this could mean the series has some destruction.

Images

The images used consist of a map of the setting being used for the series. this "builds" up to the show to let the audience know where everything is. On the map there are buildings that are being built. This links to the idea of it building up to the show. At the end of the sequence there is the game of thrones shield. This symbolises danger and violence, but also about being safe and protected.

Mise-en-scene

There are alot of colours used in this sequence;
Gold this connotes luxury and wealth
Red which connotes love, passion and danger
Green connotes natural aspects of the show like the Earth

Towers, castles and buildings being used suggests that it will be a period drama.

3. Skyfall

Music and sound

The producers have chose Adelle to sing the opening music to the film. She uses lyrics like "hold your breathe and count to ten"... " drown and dreamt" as a man is falling into the water. The song picks up the beat as the sequence goes on, this makes the audience feel intense and excited. The song is sad even though the beat picks up. The song describes what is going to happen.

Images

The first image we see is a waterfall with a man falling down it. He then falls into the water and sinks deeper and deeper. This could symbolises the sadness and danger that is going to happen in the film. This could also suggest that the film is going to be deep and emotional. The man that is drowning is wearing a suit, people who wear suits usually wear them to business meetings and dinner dances to look sophisticated and professional . There are images of seductive women. This could mean that the film is sexual and/or romantic. James bond is presented in a silhouette form. This creates mystery and drama for the audience. As the
sequence goes on a grave yard is shown. This might mean that there will be many deaths in the film.
